Amrit Manthan - Was not a one off event in mythology? Was it just a story passed down generations? I think not
I think it's a metaphor. A metaphor, for situations, that we can learn from. A metaphor that applies to life. For me the key takeaways
1. Sometimes you need your opponents support to reach your goal. Devas & Asuras had to come together for the Manthan.
2. Opponents can put aside their differences and come together for a greater cause ( Amrit - nectar for immortality) .
3.Churning will first bring out the worst (depicted by poison). Someone has to face it (Shiva drank the poison). We should always remember & acknowledge that help. ( The name Neelkanth will always remind us of what Shiva did)
4.Churning might yield many enticing results subsequently ( depicted by kamadhenu, parijata, kaustubha, airavata etc). It might even yield a lot of wealth & prosperity ( depicted by Goddess Lakshmi).
5. All the good yields will be taken by a few ( Indra took Airavata, Kaustubha adorns Vishnu, Kamdhenu becomes Sage Vashishta's cow, parijatha blooms in Satyabhama's garden). Don't grudge them their benefits. In the larger picture everything is in its right place.
6.But we don't stop churning. Don't lose sight of the larger goal (the pot of nectar) as you cross milestones.
Happy Reading.
